Senate body briefed about defence export




ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Senate Committee on Defence Production on Wednesday was briefed about the promotion of export potential during the current year by the Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO).

It met under the chairmanship of MNA Khawaja Sohail Mansoor at the Parliament Lodges.

The DEPO director general briefed the meeting regarding enhancement of export potential during current year.

The committee was informed by the DG about its creation, functions and challenges. He said that DEPO undertakes the marketing of IDEAS and Defence export of Pakistan at national as well as global level. He added that the mission of this DEPO is to facilitate, coordinate and promote the export of defence related quality products.

The deputy director general of the DEPO briefed the committee about its budgetary allocations for financial years 2016-17. He said that Rs 20.088 million was allocated during the said fiscal year. He informed the committee about the export of major products by the defence industry. The committee appreciated the role of the DEPO for organising a successful exhibition in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

The Committee was informed by the deputy director general regarding the subsidy (for private participants of IDEAS 2012, 2014 & 2016) problems being faced by the MoDP and DEPO from the Ministry of Commerce. The committee unanimously decided that the secretary, Ministry of Commerce, TDAP chairman and Ministry of Finance secretary would be called in the next meeting of the committee to resolve the issue.

The committee also approved the last minutes of the meeting held May on 12.
