LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid a surprise visit to District Headquarters Hospital in Kasur without any protocol today. He reached the hospital by road without any prior information; the administration was completely oblivious to this surprise inspection.

The chief minister also kept his staff in the dark about the tour. He visited different wards and inquired after the health of various patients admitted in the hospital.

During this inspection, he attended to patients one by one and asked about their health. He also posed questions about the availability of free medicines and quality of health care facilities to patients and their attendants who expressed their satisfaction. They also thanked the chief minister and said that due to his personal interest and continued supervision, the general conditions of the hospitals have qualitatively improved.

The chief minister also issued on-spot instructions for the treatment of some penurious patients and ordered for the constitution of a medical board for some other patients.

He expressed his utmost displeasure over the absence of Deputy MS in the hospital and said that if the MS has gone to Lahore, then it was the duty of Deputy MS to remain available in the hospital to take care of the patients. He issued orders to immediately suspend the absent DMS and said that such carefree attitude cannot be tolerated at any cost.

Punjab government has given cash prizes worth crores of rupees to doctors, nurses and paramedical staff who are serving the ailing humanity with commitment. These benefactors are our pride and such dutiful persons would be encouraged in future as well, he added. Meanwhile, the people showing dereliction of duty will be prosecuted under the law. “They will also be held accountable because I cannot tolerate any leniency or negligence in service of ailing humanity,” he warned.

The Chief Minister expressed his utmost displeasure over non-wearing of uniform by the supervisor and other janitorial staff and directed to take action, adding that non-wearing officials be changed as per directions of the Punjab government. There is a need to devise a system of effective monitoring, he added.

The CM also directed his attention to a complaint about low salary.

He further said that wards should be developed according to the needs and requirements of the patients.

He advised the doctors and nurses to guide the patients and their attendants about preventive measures for safety from infections. It is their responsibility as this thing would benefit the patients and their attendants, he added.

After his surprise inspection of the hospital, the chief minister during his conversation with the media said that tremendous improvement has been brought in this hospital and expressed his satisfaction with it. I shall continue surprise inspections of the hospitals in the future as well, concluded the chief minister.
