12 injured as Karachiites open fire to celebrate Pakistan’s victory

KARACHI: Around 12 people were reportedly injured on Sunday night when Karachi residents fired indiscriminately into the air following Pakistan cricket team’s emphatic win in ICC Champions Trophy final against India.
The injured included an employee of a private news channel who was struck by a stray bullet in his head as he stood outside the residence of Pakistani skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed in Bufferzone area of the city for media coverage. Shariq, assistant engineer DSNG at 24 News, was stated to be in critical condition at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
Included in the list of injured are 22-year-old Hira, 70-year-old Zulekha, 45-year-old Nasir Yusuf, who were hit by stray bullets in Nazimabad, Napier and Jamshed Quarters respectively. The wounded were rushed to different government-run hospitals, including JPMC, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Civil Hospital for treatment.
