The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday disclosed assets of National Assembly members for the year 2016 that had been submitted to the Commission.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is said to own assets worth more than Rs1.6 billion. According to the ECP details, the premier’s son Hussain Nawaz sent more than Rs230 million to his father from outside the country.

The Sharif family’s estate in Lahore’s Raiwind locality is priced at Rs4 million, whereas his Upper Mall Lahore property is worth over Rs250 million. Moreover, the premier owns Rs7 million worth of furniture, Rs5 million worth of animals and birds, and three cars and two tractors.

The prime minister’s wife Kulsoom Nawaz owns jewellery worth Rs1.5 million, according to the PM’s declarations to the ECP.

Moreover, the premier is said to own no properties or investments outside the country.

Similarly, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan owns assets worth more than Rs1.4 billion.

He, too, is said to own no assets abroad.

Imran residence in Islamabad’s Bani Gala locality is priced at Rs750 million and declared as a ‘gift’ with ECP. The Khan House office of the PTI chief is priced at Rs5.9 million, while Rs6.9 million is the worth of the boundary wall of Imran’s Bani Gala residence.

Imran’s family home in Zaman Park, Lahore, is said to be worth Rs29 million.

The PTI chief has also invested over Rs40 million in various schemes, owns furniture worth Rs0.6 million and four goats worth Rs0.2 million.

The PTI chief does not own a car, as the last vehicle registered under his name was sold in 2016.

The total value of Hamza Shehbaz’s assets is more than Rs35 crore. Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed has assets worth more than Rs4 crore 75 lac.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman is the owner of assets worth more than Rs64 lac, whereas Prime Minister’s son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar has assets valued at Rs1 crore 42 lac.

The details reveal that Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq owns assets worth more than 19crore, Shah Mehmood Qureshi Rs50 crore, Jehangir Tareen Rs78 crore and Khursheed Shah Rs3 crore.

Further, Ishaq Dar’s assets are valued to be Rs58 crore and Senator Aitzaz Ahsan Rs10 crore.

According to the election laws, every parliamentarian has to submit a statement of assets and liabilities of his own, his spouse and dependents annually to the ECP in September every year.

Subsequently, the Commission publishes all the statements in the official gazette, copies of which can be obtained on payment.

The chief of the ECP has the authority to suspend those who fail to file statements of their assets and liabilities within the prescribed period, by October 15.
