ISLAMABAD: The joint investigation team (JIT), responsible for probing businesses and financial dealings of the Sharif family, has summoned Captain (R) Safdar, son-in-law of PM Nawaz Sharif, to appear before it on June 24, a local media outlet reported.

Sources are also reported to have stated that the premier’s son-in-law will appear before the JIT.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, is already scheduled to appear before the investigation team at 11am on Thursday (today).

The premier’s brother, Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif, is likely to appear before the probe panel on June 17.

Sons of the prime minister, Hussain and Hassan Nawaz, have so far made multiple appearances before the JIT. Hussain has been questioned five times by the investigation team while Hassan has made an appearance twice before it.

In April, the Supreme Court had ruled that owing to a lack of sufficient evidence, Sharif could not be removed from office on the back of the Panama Papers leaks, but it had ordered further investigations to be conducted by a specially appointed JIT.

The JIT comprises members from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Intelligence, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
