Punjab CM plans waste management programme for villages

 

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday said the government had developed a mega programme of keeping the villages neat and clean. ‘Village dwellers will get same facilities of cleanliness which are available in cities’, he added.

Presiding over a meeting, held to review matters pertaining to solid waste management and sanitation programme in the rural areas, the chief minister said, the proposed Rs 15 billion programme was a unique one being launched for the first time in Pakistan. This programme, he said, would change the villages and rural hinterlands would be kept neat and clean like in like cities. He said that cleanliness system would be devolved up to the level of union councils.

He said that rural solid waste and sanitation programme was the most innovative and public friendly initiative, which would be furthered as a role model to benefit the people. He directed that skilled human resource should be hired for implementation of the programme.

Shehbaz Sharif said that clean drinking water supply programme would be started from southern Punjab and this scheme would be commenced in all tehsils of the southern Punjab districts.

He hoped that implementation of the programme would help eradicate water-borne diseases. Provincial ministers Manshaullah Butt, Syed Haroon Sultan Bukhari, PML-N leader Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, Chairman Saaf Pani Company (South) Chaudhry Arif Saeed, secretaries concerned as well as experts attended the meeting, while chairman Saaf Pani Company (North) Tahir Iqbal attended the meeting through video-link.

CM REVIEWS PERFORMANCE OF PUNJAB THERMAL POWER LIMITED COMPANY

Later, CM Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of Board of Directors of Punjab Thermal Power Limited Company which reviewed performance of the company.

Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said that Punjab government has decided to set up a new 1200 megawatt gas power project in the province. He said that this project will also have to be completed with the same standard and speed which is hallmark of Punjab government. He said that Punjab government has completed other projects transparently through round the clock hard work.

The chief minister said that work on this project will also be carried out speedily and this project will prove to be a milestone in energy generation. Acting Chief Executive Officer Punjab Thermal Company Limited Ahad Khan Cheema gave a briefing regarding proposed timelines of 1200 megawatt new gas power plant project. Provincial Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chairman Punjab Power Development Company Chaudhry Arif Saeed, Chairman Board of Directors Punjab Thermal Power Limited Abdul Basit, Chairman P&D and other members of the board were present on the occasion.
