Banned outfits will not be allowed to collect Zakat and Fitrana

LAHORE/KARACHI: The authorities at the federal and provincial levels have been directed to ensure that the banned out fits were not allowed to collect Zakat and Fitrana on Eidul Fitr day as well as during the Holy Month of Ramazan.

According to details, banned outfit and certain political parties garner mammoth amount of fiscal collection in Ramazan in terms of Zakat and Fitrana. Against this backdrop, law enforcement agencies (LEAs) ensured stern arrangements this year to curb the illicit practice resulting a significant decrease in collection of banned outfits.

Reports said that no activity pertaining to collection of Zakat and Fitrana by banned outfit in Karachi has been reported thus far. Karachi is the top city in Pakistan where maximum collection is done from Zakat and Fitrana.

Sources privy to police said that police have been deployed in vicinities of mosques and madrassas. An officer of Sindh Special Branch Police, on condition of anonymity, informed that no division has thus far submitted report pertaining to collection of Zakat and Fitrana by banned outfits.

Another police official, when contacted, told that several sittings are being arranged to oversee security matters in Ramazan.

Similar arrangements have been made in other cities of the country including Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Quetta and Peshawar to ensure that no banned organisation is able to collect the funds.

In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the police is active to arrest beggars at the traffic signals and in the markets.
