Punjab Minister for Labour & Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar on Tuesday said that it was due to government’s untiring efforts and commitment that 87,000 children of brick kilns labourers have been enrolled in schools.
He was addressing a ceremony in connection with Child Labour Day at IRI Center here. The ILO country director, Labour DG, Child Labour project director and huge number of students participated in the meeting.
The minister said, ‘We are fully committed to our work not for the sake that we are answerable to the people but above all we are also answerable to the Allah Almighty. This is only because of the labour-friendly vision of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif that no child could be found being working on any brick kiln’.
‘Moreover, we have also extended our domain to other three sectors that is hotels, workshops and petrol pumps. This is due to our commitments that laws have been passed against the child labour and the whole machinery is strictly adhering to the law’. ‘Moreover, Labour Department in connivance with PVTC and TEVTA are designing special long term and short term courses for the children according to their adaptability and education’.
The minister said, ‘We will soon be making legislation for the workers participation fund and the summary in this regard has been sent to the chief minister so that every labourer should get his due right on time.
