KARACHI: Sindh Labour, Human Resources and Information Minister Nasir Hussain has assured that all reservations of industrialists regarding labour laws will be addressed.
“The amendments made last year in labour laws will be reviewed with the meaningful consultation of industrialists and employers,” he said, while addressing an Iftar reception hosted by Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, on Tuesday.
The minister said that the Sindh government would try its best to facilitate business community.
On the occasion, KATI Patron-in-Chief SM Muneer said that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had proved his commitment and had delivered to his capacity.
Industrialists were confident that their labour-related issues would be resolved soon, he said suggesting that a powerful committee should be formed to review this issue.
SM Muneer mentioned that Korangi and other industrial zones in Karachi were faced with many problems, including a shortage of water and sewerage issues.
In response, Nasir Hussain assured that a meeting with business community would be arranged soon at the Chief Minister House.
“The CM himself is eager to listen to the community,” he reaffirmed.
He said that the development projects for industrial areas would be included in the budget allocation.
Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had categorically directed the Sindh government to resolve every problem of the business community on a priority basis, he said.
Earlier, head of KATI’s Standing Committee on Labour, EOBI and SESSI, Zahid Saeed briefed the minister about the anomalies in the amended laws in the previous year.
More than dozen labour-related laws had been amended last year by the Sindh government but not a single suggestion was taken from the business community, who were the employers of the labour.
He said many laws were contradictory. Change of definition of an employer, profit share of employees, contractual issues, welfare fund, Employees Old-age Benefits Institute (EOBI) and Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) issues and many other subjects should be addressed, he urged.
Zahid Saeed suggested forming a committee with representation of government officials, employers and workers to resolve the issue.
