Amir Liaquat is known for going a step ahead for television ratings, which usually results in him going way overboard. Case in point, who can really forget that time when he gave away ‘free babies’ in a controversial prime-time game show back in 2013? Things seldom get weirder than that.
But no, we’re talking about the king of controversy. And so, this year he decided to go a light year ahead and announced that he’d be giving away not one, or two but THREE planes in his game show on a local TV channels. And if that wasn’t enough he also announced that he’d be giving away cars (i.e. Mercedes Benz… Ahem!) and houses as well!
By the way, one Mercedez-Benz has already been given away in this show, as we speak.
No plane has been given away as yet, however, things did get a bit awkward (not to mention hilarious), as a man who’d come all the way from Mirpurkhaas wanted Amir Liaquat to give him a plane (for free)– mostly because he had come from afar.
Now Amir Liaquat tried to control the situation by announcing a cash prize of Rs10,000, then a bike, (both free, of course) but the man wasn’t having any of it. He wanted a plane (but was ready to settle for a car) and he wanted it then and there. The situation got completely ridiculous when Amir Liaquat asked the guest a simple question (for a car) that the guest was unable to answer but still wanted his prize.
The situation settled down eventually but it did entail a lesson for Amir Liaquat to slow down.
There was a time when game shows gave away simple prizes with the ‘grand‘ bumper prize usually being a car. Things weren’t this competitive. While times have changed considerably and it is not possible to go back to that time, things do need to calm down.
These shows and their awkward rating tactics are just getting more and more ridiculous with prime time television now becoming almost unbearable to watch.
