13 killed, over 50 injured in rain-related incidents

 

At least 13 people were killed and over 50 were injured in rain-related incidents in parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Rain and thunderstorm with gusty winds hit different parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa causing human and property losses. Women and children are among the dead. Four people were killed in Bahawalnagar. Rains in Faisalabad caused a roof to collapse claiming life of a woman named Shakeela Bibi while her husband was wounded. Another life was lost in Burewala while four were injured as a wall collapsed.

In Chichawatni, Sahiwal, various rain and wind-related incidents caused the deaths of three people, including two children and led to injuries to around 22 people. Several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as Murree and surrounding areas received heavy rain and hail.

According to Met Office, rain-thunderstorm with gusty winds occurred at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Kohat divisions, Punjab, Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Weather remained hot and dry in other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep sense of grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives due to storm and cyclone precipitation. The chief minister has expressed sympathies and condolences with the bereaved families. He has directed the administration of concerned districts to provide best medical facilities to the injured.
