- PTI chairman claims SECP head is a special aide of Senator Dar
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman has said that the Supreme Court should direct Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to step down until an investigation into the Panama Papers case is completed.
“Time has come for the Supreme Court to come up and take action, asking the prime minister to resign till the completion of the Panama Papers probe. Otherwise, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) can’t complete its work freely and independently,” he said during a party meeting at Bani Gala.
According to Imran, ‘verbal attacks’ by the Pakistan Muslim League-N, including the one by Senator Nehal Hashmi, had ‘proven’ that they were trying to make JIT controversial. He went on to claim that head of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) was a special aide of Senator Ishaq Dar.
He said that the ruling party was giving an ‘impression’ that Hussain Nawaz was being mistreated as a child. Discussing his personal life, the PTI chairman said that Hussain was 45 years old and had married twice. He said that Hussain also had six children. “A 45-year-old cannot be a child,” he said.
“He [Hussain] is not a child and is facing, alongside his family, ‘serious charges’ of ‘money laundering, corruption and concealment of assets’,” he claimed while referring to the recently leaked photo of the prime minister’s son. Imran claimed that the rulers were trying to damage the credibility of the investigators.
The PTI chairman said that he had asked his party members to take to streets to express solidarity with the Supreme Court. “PML-N has attacked the apex court in the past, they can do it again as they can foresee their defeat,” he claimed. He also said that the nation, not the rulers, was ready to accept the verdict of the top court.
Commenting on ‘attack’ on MNA Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed outside the Parliament House in Islamabad, the PTI chairman said that it was a planned drama. However, the action was condemnable, he appreciated reaction over the incident.
