Provincial Minister for Prisons Malik Ahmad Yar Hanjra has said that the Punjab government is working hard to transform jails into rehabilitation centres so that when prisoners come out from these jails they live their lives as law-abiding citizens and play their role in the socio-economic development of the society diligently. For this purpose, he said, the education and training of the prisoners has been taken care of besides providing the inmates with a favourable environment.
He said this while talking to different public delegations at his office today.
The minister commended the provincial budget 2017-18 and said that ample funds have been allocated for the development and provision of facilities to the prisoners. He said that different steps have been taken for the provision of quality facilities including a balanced diet and clean drinking water to the inmates. He said that juvenile offenders have been provided with free educational facilities; the female prisoners are being kept in a secure and protective environment.
Different beneficial training courses have been arranged in collaboration with TEVTA to educate the prisoners. The purpose, he said, is to train the prisoners to earn their livelihood after their release from jails.
The minister further told that good arrangements have been made for prisoners during the holy month of Ramzan and added that such special arrangements will also be made during on the occasion of Eid ul Fitar so that they best enjoy their Eid.
