Six-member Qatari delegation reaches Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A six-member Qatari delegation reached Islamabad late on Wednesday night, sources are reported to have said.The delegation is expected to meet high-level officials at the Prime Minister House who will also discuss the recent situation in the Gulf.

The officials had landed in Lahore before, where they met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. They conveyed him the Qatar ameer’s message that demanded Pakistan play its role regarding the diplomatic crisis in Gulf – issue of bans imposed by fellow countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

The delegation is headed by the Qatar ameer’s secretary, Abdul Hadi Mana Al Hajri.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain announced they were cutting diplomatic ties and closing air, sea and land links with Qatar, giving Qataris within their borders two weeks to leave.

The four countries have suspended all flights to and from Qatar, pulled their ambassadors from Doha and ordered Qatari diplomats to leave.
