ITP urges motorists to be patient in Ramzan

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Thursday advised motorists to exhibit patience and follow traffic rules to avoid accidents in Ramzan, especially during Iftar and Sehr timings.

Talking to APP, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malik Matloob Ahmed said, unfortunately, some motorists hurry to reach their respective destinations as the Iftar time gets close, neglecting all traffic rules and putting lives at risk.

Giving details about road accidents he said within 10 days of Ramzan 5 people have died, six injured in various accidents. Peak accident timings are between 8 am to 10 am and 12 am to 2 pm, while Saturday and Sunday are the most dangerous days Pre-Iftar rush hour is also a problematic time, he added.

He said an additional 386 ITP personnel had been deployed at busy roads, markets and mosques to ensure smooth flow of traffic in Ramzan.

In order to aware public about road safety, he said, Ramzan special transmission is also being broadcasted through ITP FM 92.4. ITP educational teams have also been visiting schools, colleges, universities and other institutions for the same purpose.

The SSP said in order to adopt preventive measures, it was important for drivers to abide by traffic laws and regulations, fasten seatbelts and avoid over-speeding and mobile use.

He said traffic police personnel were performing their duties in scorching heat while fasting only to ensure the safety of road-users.
