ISLAMABAD: The foreign office in a statement has strongly condemned the Wednesday terrorist attack in Iran which has so far killed 12 people.
The FO press release said Pakistan denounced the attacks which took place at the tomb of Ruhollah Khomeini and at the Iranian parliament.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of Iran in their hour of grief,” read a line from the press release.
Pakistan offered its deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those affected, the Iranian government and the people.
Gunmen and suicide bombers carried out coordinated attacks on Iran’s parliament and the tomb of revolutionary founder Ruhollah Khomeini, state media reported, killing 12 people.
The Islamic State group has claimed the attacks in parliament and the shrine, a news outlet linked to ISIS, Amaq propaganda agency, said.
“Fighters from the Islamic State attacked the Khomeini mausoleum and the parliament building in Tehran,” the agency said.
A security guard and one other person were killed when four gunmen burst into Tehran’s parliament complex with rifles and a pistol, according to the ISNA news agency.
One of the attackers blew himself up on the fourth floor of the parliament office building as the siege continued.
In the coordinated mid-morning attack, a gardener was reported dead and several more injured when armed assailants entered the grounds of Khomeini’s mausoleum in the south of the city.
A female suicide bomber blew herself up outside the shrine, while another woman was arrested carrying six grenades, according to the Mizanonline news agency.
