DERA GHAZI KHAN: At least two people died while several fell unconscious as temperatures continue to soar in Dera Ghazi Khan the other day.
The temperature soared to 50 degrees in the district, the highest during the current season.
A police official told local media outlet that 35-year-old Muhammad Adeel had gone to Fareedi Bazaar to shop when he fell unconscious due to the heat. However, Adeel later passed away. Doctors at the hospital stated heat stroke as the likely cause of death.
Similarly, an unidentified man lost his life due to heat stroke in Choti area of the district. His body was shifted to the hospital for legal formalities.
Meanwhile, there were reports that several people fell unconscious in different parts of Dera Ghazi Khan due to the current heat wave. As per media reports, several victims suffering from heat stroke were treated at the Teaching hospital.
They said a number of cases of those affected by heat were registered at the hospital. However, the doctors maintained the condition of the victims was not critical and many were discharged after receiving treatment. The current wave of heat spell has disrupted routine life in the region and forced people to stay indoors.
According to the Met department, Dera Ghazi Khan has recorded its highest ever temperature. Previously, highest temperature recorded in the region was 50 degrees on June 20, 1986.
The Met department and district administration have issued advisory to the people to take extreme precautionary measures and avoid direct sun exposure.
The Met officials have forecasted that the heat spell will continue for a few more days and the weather in most parts is predicted to remain dry.
