TEVTA increases number of students to 59,000

Chairman Punjab Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Irfan Qaiser Sheikh on Monday said that TEVTA has increased the number of students for on job training from 9000 to 59000 over the last three years.

Irfan Qaiser Sheikh was addressing the meeting of TEVTA officials at TEVTA Secretariat. He further said that in 2014 the number of students for on job training was only 9000 which had now been increased to 59,000 in the current year. He further said that TEVTA aims at increasing the number of on job training to 100,000 in the near future.

Speaking about the importance of the on job training, Irfan said that among those students doing on job training, 90 per cent have been hired in the same industries. TEVTA, after convincing the industry had decided that the minimum salary of the skilled labour should be set at Rs 18000, he said, adding that now the Punjab government had increased the minimum salary of labour in the Budget 2017-18.

Irfan further observed that TEVTA would achieve its target of providing 100 per cent job opportunities to its students. “For this purpose, it is important that we start the courses, keeping in view the demand of industry and we are focusing on this,” he said.

He added that the technical and vocational education was on the priority list of the Punjab government, therefore, TEVTA would double the female enrolment for the next academic year.

The meeting also decided on an on time provision of scholarships to the students.
