The joint investigation team (JIT)—after examining the record produced by the premier’s sons Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz, prime minister’s cousin Tariq Shafi, State Bank of Pakistan President Saeed Ahmed, PM’s close friend Javed Kayani and others—has almost finalised the report which it would submit before the three-member special bench of Supreme Court on Wednesday.

A high-profile investigation team probing the graft allegations against Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his two sons had submitted its first fortnightly report to the three-member special bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ejazul Ahsan on May 22.

Moreover, sources said that the government deliberately ‘leaked’ the photo of Hussain Nawaz during JIT appearance to get the sympathies of people and to make JIT ‘controversial’, adding that how can anyone leak the photo from a top-secret inquiry?

However, sources said that JIT head, FIA Additional Director General Wajid Zia has called for an explanation from the concerned staff over the matter.

On Saturday, PM’s elder son, Hussain Nawaz appeared before the JIT fourth time and had faced a four-hour-long inquiry to defend the money trail.

Hussain Nawaz, after being grilled for many hours in inquiry sessions by the JIT, during last week, has successfully recorded his statement and provided all the required documents to JIT.

The JIT on Saturday completed the first round of investigations from a key family member of Sharif family, Hussain Nawaz. Hussain, after appearing before JIT, however, said he would come again whenever JIT summons him.

Reiterating his earlier stance, Hussain said, “There is no evidence against us; no proof that can be brought forward.”

Hussain claimed that his father, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, had not been summoned by the JIT for questioning as yet.

Two days earlier, his younger brother, Hassan Nawaz, had appeared before the JIT for the first time to defend the money trail of their London properties. The JIT held a seven-hour-long session with Hassan Nawaz.

When Hussain emerged from the JIT secretariat following his previous appearance, he claimed that there was not an iota of evidence of any wrongdoing or illegality committed by him, his father, brother and sister.

The apex court in its judgment on April 20 had asked the government to set up the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the allegations that the Sharif’s family properties in London were purchased with ill-gotten money.

The apex court had ordered the JIT to complete its probe within 60 days and framed 13 questions which are being investigated and answered.

According to sources, Senator Ishaq Dar is expected to appear before JIT on Monday.
