BADIN: Badin bazaars witnessed minimal market activity on Saturday as the second day of the fruit boycott campaign commenced. The citizens of Badin, in response to the campaign launched through social media across the country, boycotted fruits.
Fruit markets, including Fruits Chowk, Gharibabad, Shahnawaz Chowk, Seerani Staff and others, witnessed a decline in their sale.
Talking to Pakistan Today, fruits consumer Zulfiqar Ali said that many fruits, including bananas, watermelons, apples, oranges, etc., were being sold at higher prices after Ramzan started.
“We can’t purchase overpriced fruits so we have decided to join the campaign,” he added.
Another consumer, Muhammad Ramzan said claimed that the fruit sellers have increased the rates of the fruits, which has made fruits out of common man’s reach, adding that it is better to join the boycott rather than buying overpriced fruits. He expressed his grave concern over the government’s incapability of regulating the prices.
While talking to Pakistan Today, the fruit sellers, including Khamiso Mallah, Rajab Ali Soomro, Wahid Pathan and others confirmed a decline in the sale of fruits and said that they were compelled to sell the fruits at high prices as they bought them from the markets on high rates. They said that if they were buying the fruits at high prices, it would be naturally for them to sell them at high prices.
Representatives of civil society, labourers, journalists and citizens of the district Badin termed the campaign favourable for the people of Pakistan and demanded from the higher authorities to regulate the prices.
