Pervaiz Elahi accuses Punjab government of corruption

Former Deputy Prime Minister Pervaiz Elahi has accused the Punjab government of misuse of authority in the use of funds for development works while addressing a press conference here on Saturday.

He said that when he left office the Punjab government passed a budget with a surplus, but the government has ruined all that he worked for.

He claimed that he has proof of mega corruption in major developmental projects including the Orange Line and the Metro Bus projects. In addition to that, he also alleged the current government of land grabbing worth Rs 28 billion.

He further added that during his tenure as the chief minister of Punjab, the debt on the Punjab government was of Rs 267 billion, whereas the current debt stands at Rs 712 billion. He claimed that a loan worth Rs128 billion pertains to Metro Bus service, alone.

He expressed serious concern over the budget allocation for education which he believed was half of what he had given in his last budget as the chief minister. He said that Shahbaz Sharif’s pet project, Danish Schools is in a complete turmoil.

Pervaiz Elahi believes that the record of billions of rupees worth of projects was not present whereas he blamed the Punjab government for setting a fire in the LDA building so that all the records for lands would burn.

After the press conference, Pervaiz Elahi met with the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) senior leader and the Leader of the Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed to discuss Punjab’s current budget. He told Mehmood-ur-Rashid about the scams in the projects and the dire need to keep a check on the government.

Appreciating the performance of Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed as the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly, he said that the opposition is united against the government.

It was agreed during the meeting that the two parties would stage a strong protest against the corruption cases of the government in the Punjab assembly.

Thanking Ch Parvaiz Elahi, the opposition leader said that to highlight black deeds of the government before the people is our first and foremost duty. The ruling MPAs have no interest in the solution of the problems faced by the people.
