The Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) mourns with deep sorrow and sadness the passing away of its former secretary general, Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada, at age 94, after a brief illness in Karachi, on Friday.
The death of Pirzada is a great loss to the Muslims nations, as he was a man who worked hard to serve his own country and to defend the pan-Islamic causes across the various positions he held.
He also made prominent contributions in the publishing field, as he authored numerous research and academic works published in Pakistan and abroad.
Joint Islamic Action has lost one of the most eminent Islamic personalities that played a crucial role in reinforcing Islamic solidarity during his tenure in OIC from 1985-1988.
Pirzada was the fifth OIC secretary general following his selection during a fifteenth session of the OIC conference of foreign ministers held in 1984 in Sanaa, Yemen.
On this sad occasion, OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen, extends his most sincere condolences to the family of the departed and to the government and people of Pakistan, praying to Allah that He may bestow mercy on departed soul.
