JIT completes inquiry with Hussain Nawaz

Hussain Nawaz, after being grilled for 15 hour-long four-inquiry sessions by the joint investigation team (JIT) during the last six days, has successfully recorded his statement and provided all the required documents on Saturday.

The JIT Saturday completed first round of investigations from a key family member of Sharif family, Hussain Nawaz. Hussain, after appearing before JIT, however said he would come again whenever JIT summon him.

Hussain’s fourth appearance before JIT on Saturday lasted for almost four-and-a-half hours. He reached the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) – Secretariat at around 10:50am and left the venue around 3:20pm.

After recording his statement, Hussain briefly talked to media outside the FJA. Hussain said, “This is not the first time and there is nothing new this time around. I, my family and our children have been held accountable several times in the past and we would continue to offer ourselves for accountability in future until truth comes before the public and the Supreme Court.”

Though, he did not forget to mention his son’s latest tweet – those were of the view that Sharif family will evade accountability are remorseful today – in response to a question that when would his father, Nawaz Sharif, will appear before the JIT.

‘PM has not been summoned by the JIT’, Hussain said adding the Supreme Court’s judgment has bound every one named in the case to appear before the JIT whenever asked for it.

When asked about ongoing investigations, he said, I have submitted various documentary evidences to support our case and these evidences are related to Panama case’.

‘Mayfair flats are not controversial. We have produced our side of narrative about ownership of those flats before the SC and we stick to that narrative [before JIT]’, Hussain added. However, he did not disclose further details saying investigations were privileged.

He said it was his and his family’s desire that the process of ongoing investigations should conclude smoothly. He said the allegations against Sharif family were based on mere assumptions and till that day no evidence had been presented by anyone to prove those allegations.

Now the SC has given them [JIT] three months to complete investigations but everyone knew that during Musharraf regime we were investigated for 14 months and not only us but witnesses were kept behind the bars and in isolation.

‘At the end they had nothing but a plane hijacking case and everyone knows reality of that case’, Hussain said. He said Sharif family had same assets as it had when Musharraf investigated them and same accusations as the family was facing at that time.
