LPG Association of Pakistan (LPGAP) has demanded the concerned authorities to take steps to control the influx of sub-standard imported LPG.
Imported LPG is damaging the local LPG industry, said Chairman LPGAP Farooq Iftikhar in a statement here on Saturday.
He said that the locally produced LPG can cater to the domestic needs but its higher prices have encouraged import of LPG. LPG, he added, is also being smuggled in Pakistan that further lowers its price.
He said, “High prices of LPG producers have allowed smugglers and importers of sub-standard gas which needs to be checked”.
He said that the consumption of LPG during summer decreases not only in Pakistan but also in other countries. Reduction in demand brings the prices down, but this season the situation in Pakistan is contrary to it, he added.
Farooq Iftikhar emphasised the required urgency in bringing down the price to discourage sub-standard imports and enable LPG Marketing and Storage companies to perform their responsibilities in the best manner.
