KARACHI: Korangi Municipal Corporation’s Parks Department (DMC-Korangi) has started its plantation campaign to help address the issue of atmospheric pollution and provide a much needed green cover to the area.
Korangi DMC Nayyar Raza, who directed for the pre-monsoon campaign, here on Thursday visited different localities in the district and appreciated that hundreds of neem saplings have been planted during the ongoing exercise.
Accompanied by other officials of the DMC, he said that designated green belts, as well as central islands on major thoroughfares and footpaths, must be equally focused.
“Neem being the indigenous variety with the highest chances to survive in a local environment must be the preferred choice,” he told the concerned officials.
Raza mentioned that once grown into a full tree, neem provides protection against scorching heat, brings down the temperatures while its byproducts also hold immense values for people in general.
He directed the concerned officials to prefer the indigenous variety of plants in the “Green Korangi” scheme with equal attention to seek maximum public support for the campaign.
