BADIN: To provide the assistance and support to the poor and handicapped was one of the visions of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has taken measures to ensure that the vision comes true by launching many projects for their welfare.

These views were expressed by Sindh Usher, Zakat and Health Minister Dr Sikander Ali Mandhro on Thursday, during cheques distribution ceremony, at the Badin Council Hall.

Dr Mandhro said that Badin is a remote district of the country so a large number of people require Usher and Zakat as compared to other districts of Sindh; therefore a huge amount should be allocated in the budget to financially assist these people, he added.

He suggested that the government should reserve a big amount under ‘Guzara Allowance’ to provide for the marriages and medical treatment of poor women.

Cheques, of 5,000 each, were distributed to 261 women and handicapped.

On the occasion, Badin PPP President Muhammad Ramzan Chandio, PPP Information Secretary Fida Hussain Mandhro, Health DHO Dr Mehboob Khuwaja, Dr Kosar Mandhro and others were present.

Meanwhile, a large number of people also held a protest demonstration outside the district council and alleged that the cheques of Usher and Zakat weren’t distributed on the basis of merit.
