  • Single bench again issues notices to federation, ECP

The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday maintained its stay order until July 4, against the proceedings of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding alleged violation of the election code of conduct by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan during the by-elections.

A single bench of the high court comprising Justice Aamer Farooq conducted hearing in the case filed by the PTI chairman through his counsel Dr Babar Awan. The counsel adopted the stance that the respondents in the case had not submitted their reply in the case.

On which, the bench again issued notices to the federation and the Election Commission and adjourned the case until July 4. It may be mentioned here that Imran Khan had moved a petition through his counsel and challenged the ECP notifications regarding restrictions on political party heads, MNAs, and MPAs to participate in the election campaign for by-elections and consequential proceedings against him for the violation of the notifications.

He had nominated the Election Commission of Pakistan through its chairman and director general (elections) as respondents in his petition.
