Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday served notice on former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in a contempt of court plea in bulletproof vehicle provision case.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani heard the case filed by Riaz Haneef Rahi against the former chief justice for not presenting the bulletproof vehicle before the bench despite the court orders. During the proceeding, the petitioner argued that Iftikhar had committed the contempt of court for not complying the orders to produce vehicle before the court.
The former chief justice had violated the court orders, he added. After hearing the arguments, the bench served notices to the respondent including Iftikhar Chaudhary and Sheikh Ahsanuddin and adjourned the case for an indefinite time.
It may be mentioned here that Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court on December 2, 2016 had ordered Justice Iftikhar’s counsel to produce the vehicle before the court by December 8 where it would remain parked till the adjudication of the case regarding the provision of bulletproof vehicle to the former chief justice.
But the court orders couldn’t be complied so far. On which, the petitioner had moved a contempt of court plea against the former chief justice and his counsel.
