ISLAMABAD: The government has asked the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take a notice of the report published by a private media outlet claiming that a Supreme Court registrar had tried to influence the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT), by calling the top bosses of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) to include specific names in the panel.

State Minister for information, while addressing a press conference, said that “We hope the Supreme Court will take notice of Ansar Abbasi’s report published in The News.”

The government hopes that the top court would see what has been written in the report and would take strict action, she added.

According to the report, the caller told the officials of the SBP and SECP to include specific names in the panel to be forwarded to the Supreme Court’s special bench for the constitution of JIT on the Panama case.

State Bank rejects report

The State Bank of Pakistan on Tuesday termed the report baseless.

A spokesman for the State Bank said that SC had itself picked the name of SBP official for JIT.

When the private media outlet contacted Supreme Court Registrar Arbab Arif for confirmation of the news, he only offered ‘no comment’. “Let me do my work,” said the registrar and went inside the office of the Chief Justice.
