Punjab Assembly shows solidarity with Kashmiris

The Punjab Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution to show solidarity with Kashmiri people against the brutality of Indian Army in the Indian-held Kashmir.

The resolution was moved by Opposition Leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed in view of recent atrocities by the Indian Army in the disputed state in which at least 12 Kashmiris were killed. In his resolution, the mover condemned the human rights violation in the Kashmiri state, saying that Pakistani people would always support Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

He demanded of the government to play its role at all the platforms including the United Nation and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to present the situation, being faced by the Kashimiri people. The House passed the resolution unanimously. In his speech, Mahmood said that the Pakistani people would continue their moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people.

“Indian brutality and human rights violation in Kashmir is not hidden from the world and for this Pakistan would play its due role,” he said, adding that the UN Security Council resolutions provided Kashmiris with the right to self-determination. He criticised the Kashmir Committee for what he claimed not playing its due role to propagate the Kashmir cause.

The Kashmir Committee is headed by Fazlur Rehman, the parliamentary leader of the Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam-F. The opposition leader said that the federal government allocating a budget of two billion rupees annually for this committee, but its performance was dismal.

He demanded of the government to replace the present chairman of the committee with suitable chairman who can highlight the Kashmir issue on the international level so it can be resolved. The session was prorogued for indefinite period.
