CM Shehbaz reviews programme for safe drinking water

A high level meeting was held here today under the chair of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to review the progress of the programme for the provision of clean drinking water to the people.

The chief minister expressed strong indignation over the submission of summaries with regard to this programme, and said that while people are desperate for clean drinking water, the responsible departments are busy sending summaries; this situation is unacceptable, he said. In future, no such summary should be forwarded to him in this regard, he directed. He said that the Punjab Saaf Pani Company has its autonomous board of directors; this board should make and implement decisions itself, instead of sending summaries to him.

The chief minister said that the programme for clean water will be launched in 37 tehsils of Southern Punjab at the same time; and directed that this programme should be implemented on priority basis in tehsils where water is saline. He said that this program should be implemented upon without any delay.

“Clean drinking water is the basic necessity of the people and the Punjab government has launched this program to fulfill this basic requirement” the chief minister said.

Punjab chief minster further said that this program should be moved forward in an organised manner in consultation with foreign experts.

Chairman Punjab Saaf Pani Company, secretary housing, CEOs of Punjab Saaf Pani Company in North and South, concerned officials and German consultant attended the meeting.
