JAMSHORO: Sindh has witnessed another power breakdown with the 500KV transmission line in Jamshoro tripping once again on Tuesday (today).

At least 76 grid stations of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) became non-functional as a result of which power was cut in 13 districts including Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Mirpur Khas, Thatta and Sajawal.

This is the second major breakdown in three days. To make the situation worse, water availability has also been affected by the power cut as several areas are facing a suspension creating numerous difficulties for the people.

Spurred by anger and desperation, some citizens turned to protest at K-Electric’s complaint office near Post Office and Liaquatabad No. 10, where they vandalised property and tried to burn down the building. However, authorities reached in time to prevent further damage to the power utility’s structures. The protesters thereafter took to burning tyres, which led to the road getting blocked.

Several residents also temporarily blocked the Malir 15 flyover.

The situation has been ongoing since the first day of Ramazan depriving Karachiites of power and water during both Sehr and Iftar timings.

Hesco spokesperson has claimed that the transmission line has tripped due to humidity and will be restored as soon as the repair work is completed.
