BADIN: The prices of essential commodities and goods have been reached at out of range of common people during the holy month of Ramzan while district administration, the price controlling authority and others departments have failed to control the price hikes of essential goods and provide relief to common people of the district.
The grocers are getting high profits by adding higher benefits at the cost of unfortunate consumers of the district. The grocers are selling common commodities like grains, pulses, rice, sugar and vegetables, meat, fish, chicken meat and different items of fruits etc on double rates.
The survey revealed that the grocers of Badin who used to sell a dozen bananas at Rs50 before the holy month are currently selling the same at the rate of Rs100; meanwhile, a kilogramme of mango which was sold out at the rate of Rs60 earlier but now it is being sold at the price of Rs120. At the same time, the chicken meat was earlier sold at the rate of Rs220 now it is being given on rate of Rs240 to common people, simultaneously the rates of all common goods have increased after the holy month commenced.
People from different walks of life, including farmers, labourers, government employees, political workers and students, on Monday, criticised the unprecedented rise in prices of common essential commodities and goods at Badin district.
They deplored that dearness has made even survival uncertain adding that instead of providing some relief, the government was making the life even miserable. They vowed to join in protest movements if the fresh increase in prices of common commodities was not controlled. They maintained that people were already suffering greatly due to the increasing unemployment, poverty and dearness. The people of Badin also criticised the government for failing to control price hiking and termed that it would add to the miseries of common man.
The people of Badin have demanded from the higher authorities that government should pay heed to the growing profiteering and take stern measures by preventing the profiteers from selling the essential goods at high prices. They also appealed to the Sindh government to take appropriate measures for maintaining the prices which would lead to saving at the consumers’ end.
