Yaum-e-Takbeer was celebrated on Sunday with zeal and zest to mark the national day when Pakistan carried out nuclear tests on this day in 1998 on the directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in response to the Indian nuclear explosions.

Special prayers were offered in mosques and other holy places for the progress and prosperity of the country, supremacy of constitution and eradication of terrorism. In all major cities, different organisations had arranged special programmes and functions to highlight importance of the day.

In his message on the Youm-e-Takbeer, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that the nation was showing unity to make Pakistan as an Asian Tiger in economic terms as it had shown unity in 1998 when the country carried out nuclear tests making the national defence as impregnable.

He said that May 28 was an unforgettable day in the history of Pakistan when the country appeared as an atomic power on the global map. Addressing an event, former president Muhammad Rafique Tarar said that Youm-e-Takbeer was one of the most important days of country’s history, as it made Pakistan unbeatable in terms of defence and the foiled designs of its enemies forever.

He said that Youm-e-Takbeer was a day of pride for not only Pakistanis but also for the entire Muslim Ummah. He said that the most important message of the day was that the nation would not allow anyone to get in the way of progress of Pakistan. He paid tributes to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over his daring approach despite pressure from the world powers.

In Multan, the Multan Institute of Nuclear Medicines and Radiotherapy (MINAR) also organised a ceremony, chaired by Dr Darre Sabeeh, to mark the Youm-e-Takbeer. In his message, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Muhammad Naeem urged upon officials to play their effective role for progress of the country.
