- SCBA, LHCBA decide to wear black ribbons, weekly protest camps
The lawyers have decided to postpone protest movement against the prime minister during the Islamic month of Ramazan and due to scorching heat.
Earlier, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) jointly demanded that the prime minister should either tender his resignation within a week or be prepared to face a lawyers’ movement ‘bigger’ than of 2007.
Now, the SCBA and the LHCBA leaders have unanimously decided that there would be weekly protest camps outside courts during the Ramazan and the lawyers would wear black ribbons on their arms while appearing in courts and black flags would be placed in the bars.
LHCBA President Chaudhary Zulfiqar Ali said that protest would be recorded every Thursday during Ramazan. “We are just demanding the resignation of the prime minister,” he said. In a press release, the LHCBA said that the demand for the prime minister’s resignation was not only ‘constitutional’ but also a ‘democratic’ right of the lawyers.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Islamabad High Court Bar Association President Arif Chaudhary said that it was decided to delay the movement against the prime minister during the current Islamic month. “However, protest camps will be established every Thursday,” he said.
After Eidul Fitr, the joint investigation team (JIT) would also be nearing its stipulated time of 60 days, he said, adding that the investigators would finish its business before the actual launch of the movement.
