MULTAN: A 19-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by a relative was declared Kaari as per panchayat orders in District Rajanpur.
According to Fazilpur Police, Shumaila, resident of Fazilpur was sentenced either to be killed or to be sold on charges of adultery.
Station House Officer (SHO) Fazilpur Police Station Qaisar Husnain Shah told local media outlet that Shumaila approached the police after she was given sentence by the panchayat.
Shumaila in a report claimed that while she was asleep with her parents at home on Friday night, Khaleel Ahmad entered the house and raped her forcibly at gunpoint.
When the entire family found out about the incident the next day, the relatives decided to approach the family court. Four people including Muhammad Shafee, father of Khaleel Ahmad, forced the panchayat to declare the girl as Kaari. Moreover, victim’s father was forced to accept the decision of the panchayat. The girl escaped the house when she found out about the panchayat’s decision and took refuge at her uncle’s home.
