The federal government has earmarked Rs413 billion for the Ministry of Water and Power for 251 ongoing projects and new schemes for the financial year 2017-18.
According to the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), the government has allocated Rs321795 million for the power division from its own resources, while Rs55747 million came through foreign assistance, Rs36644 million earmarked for water section as only Rs106 million came through foreign assistance.
At least Rs127917 million have been allocated for 16 ongoing schemes of hydal projects of WAPDA as Rs1267 million have been earmarked for construction of two new dams in Chitral and Mohmand.
As many as 154 on-going projects of PEPCO have been allocated Rs239158 million, out of which Rs35789 million came through foreign aid. At least 34 new schemes of PEPCO have been allocated Rs9200 million, of which Rs135 million came through foreign aid.
In the ongoing schemes head, Rs21000 million have been earmarked for construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam, Rs53775 million have been kept for construction of Dasu Power Project, Rs6255 million have been allocated for construction of Golan Gol Hydro Project, Rs19573 million have been allocated for Neelum Jehlum Hydro Power project, while Rs16396 million has been dedicated for Taarbeela Fourth Extension Project.
Up to Rs16234 million have been earmarked for coal-fired power plant in Jamshoro, Rs39256 million have been allocated for RLNG-based power plant in Balloki, Punjab.

The foreign assistance in various water and power projects comes around Rs55 billion, however, the foreign assistance in water projects stands at a meagre Rs106 million.
