Rs26.900bn earmarked for ministry of SAFRON for 2017-18

The federal government has earmarked Rs26900 million for Ministry of State of Frontier Regions and Division for various on-going and new schemes for the financial year 2017-18.

According to the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), out of the total Rs26.900 billion, only an amount of Rs490 million is foreign assistance.

A total of Rs26.250 billion has been allocated for four ongoing schemes, while a meagre Rs650 million has been earmarked for two new programmes.

In the ongoing schemes, a lion’s share amounting to Rs24.500 billion has been earmarked for block allocation for Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), of which Rs490 million has been provided by ADB, while Rs439 million has been earmarked for construction of Chao Tangi Small Dam, South Waziristan (SWA).

Similarly, Rs811 million has been allocated for construction of Nahqi Tunnel Mohmand, which was approved back in June 2016, and Rs500 million has been earmarked for Zyra to Dabori Road, Aurakzai Agency.

However, there are only two new schemes included for the year of 2017-18 for which a meagre amount of Rs650 million has been earmarked. Moreover, Rs600 million has been earmarked for widening and improvement of Ghalanai, Mohmand Gatt Road, while Rs50 million has been allocated for the establishment of Nawaz Sharif Model Town in Miranshah, North Waziristan (NWA), which is yet to be unapproved.
