‘Wedding halls, CNG stations’ owners violated building laws’

The wedding halls and CNG stations have been constructed during the last 10 years within the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi Development Authority in sheer breach of all the building bylaws.

According to media reports, the owners had rolled down and took the law into their hands while setting up their marriage halls and CNG stations.

As per NOC issued during former president Pervaiz Musharraf regime it was mandatory to have four kanals of land for setting up wedding halls. On one kanal land the hall was required to be constructed and the remaining 3 kanals was to be allocated for car parking and other purposes.

According to sources, around five wedding halls were set up on Saidpur Road, five on Sherpao Colony Committee Chowk, while over 15 wedding halls on Jhelum Road, Chakri Road, Fateh Jang Road in RDA jurisdiction in utter defiance of building bylaws.

As per CNG NOC it was made legally binding on owners to construct CNG station on at least two kanals of land with 60 foot front. Sherpao Colony 1, Committee Chowk, 2, Saidpur Road 3, Jhelum, Chakri and Fateh Jang, Adiala Road over 10 CNG stations have violated the laws.

The RDA only issued notices to violators rather than taking any legal action against them. RDA Inspector Adiala Road Nadeem Jamaal said that most of the CNG stations and wedding halls established in these areas were very old, however, all possible measures were being taken to enforce the law.

Interior Rawalpindi City Inspector Aslam Shah said that action was taken and fine was also imposed on the violators of bylaws a few years back who had paid fine. Violators of by laws will also not be spared in future, he added. .
