KARACHI: The Sindh home minister has taken notice of a ‘fake’ FIR filed late the other day by the Gulshan-e-Maymar police against four brothers who were reportedly involved in a road accident with a police vehicle, local media outlet reported.

In what is being said a car collision accident, a policeman driving an official vehicle hit a private vehicle from the rear Thursday night, after which he allegedly assaulted all four passengers, called backup and then took the passengers of the private vehicle to the Gulshan-e-Maymar Police Station.

The policeman, along with his colleagues at the police station, continued to thrash the four passengers – all brothers – in the police station as well, and then went on to register a case against them.

In the FIR lodged at the Gulshan-e-Maymar police station on request of police official Kamran, the blame for the accident was put on the four brothers. It was also mentioned that the brothers’ vehicle hit the police van from the rear-end. However, the damage on both vehicles claimed the opposite as the front side of the police vehicle was damaged along with the rear-end of the private car.

Moreover, the policeman was also allowed to take away his official vehicle without any examination being conducted on it by the Gulshan-e-Maymar police.

When the news of the treatment meted out to the private citizens was reported in the media, Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial took notice of the incident and ordered corrective action.

“We will not let Karachi become a police state,” Siyal stated, adding that action will be taken against the policemen who filed the false case and the SHO of the Gulshan-e-Maymar police station.

The minister, who noted that the policemen wrongly favoured their colleague, ordered the DIG East to investigate the matter.
