KARACHI: Party leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan have informed that a ‘missing’ worker of the party has been found shot dead.

‘Missing’ worker Furqan Iqbal was found dead with two bullet wounds on the upper torso of his body on a road off Super Highway near a village within the jurisdiction of Memon Goth police station on Wednesday.

“The victim was an officer-bearer of the MQM-P and lived in Gulshan-i-Iqbal,” said party chief Dr Farooq Sattar.

Speaking at a press conference at party’s temporary headquarters in Bahadurabad on Thursday, Sattar stated that Iqbal was killed in ‘custody’ and said such killings must be curbed. He added that over 150 party workers were missing and demanded their release.

He alleged that Iqbal was taken away by ‘personnel’ in plain clothes. After his ‘arrest,’ a petition was filed in the Sindh High Court, which was pending when he was killed after ‘illegal detention’ of 14 days, he added.

Sattar demanded arrest of the ‘personnel’ involved in the ‘brutal killing’ of Iqbal.

Meanwhile, investigation officer Mohammed Husain Lashari of Memon Goth police station told local media outlet that the body of the deceased was received by his maternal uncle. He also informed that iqbal worked at Port Qasim as a storekeeper.

He also stated that Iqbal left his home in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on a motorcycle on May 11 and talked to his wife Sumera on the mobile phone at around 1pm, inquiring about their child’s return from the school. Since then Iqbal had been reportedly missing.
