SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, a civilian, who was tied to an Indian army jeep as a human shield in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district last month, has been diagnosed with a serious mental ailment by doctors at the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.
The medical report says that Farooq Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rahim Dar of Chill village in Budgam, has been diagnosed with acute stress disorder by doctors at SMHS Hospital after being examined.
On April 9, 27-year-old Dar was tied to an army jeep and paraded through several villages in Budgam district for nearly five hours before his family members and villagers got him released from the army custody in the evening.
Taking suo moto cognizance of the incident, local human rights commission had directed SMHS Hospital to get the victim examined at the institute and submit his medical report to the commission.
“Psychiatric consultation was done for features of anxiety/ stress which diagnosed him with Acute Stress Disorder with Trauma Screening Questionnaire (TSQ) score of 8 out of 10,” reads Dar’s medical report.
“As per patient’s statement, he was on his way on a two-wheeler on the day when he was stopped by forces and beaten with a stick for about 20 minutes and then tied to the bonnet of the vehicle as a human shield,” the report states.
The medical report further stated that the patient had lost consciousness for about 20-25 minutes after the assault.
“The patient also gives a history of two episodes of vomiting, which contained ingested food. There is also a history of mouth bleeding. He also gives a history of nightmares since then,” it states.
