At least 15 people, including five women and a school child, were injured in five different incidents of hand grenade attacks on school and houses in Shabqadar and Mohamand agency Saturday, local police said.

In all, one school and four houses were attacked by the miscreants.

Five women and a child were injured in an attack on a house. The injured also included a security guard of a primary school in Shabqadar tehsil. Miscreants attacked two houses in Zari Koroona and Mosool Koroona villages while a private school in Sro Kelay.

Police official Zaman Khan said the attacks took place in the town of Shabqadar, which is located near Mohmand tribal agency. He added the police have launched a hunt for those responsible.

Khan said no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, which caused panic among residents.

The injured have been shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Shabqadar and Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.

Mohmand is one of Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous tribal districts near the Afghan border, rife with homegrown insurgents and foreign militants.

Despite heavy military presence on both sides of the border, cross-border movements of militants (in both ways) have been a major area of concern.
