LAHORE: In the wake of the ongoing goods transporter’s strike, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Tuesday asked the Supreme Court to take suo motu of the strike that is affecting the trade, industry and economy causing losses of billions.
Speaking at a press conference, the LCCI Acting President Amjad Ali Jawa said, “Continued strike by the goods transporters has already caused a loss of over Rs60 billion to the trade and industry as goods are stuck at Karachi Port and Port Muhammad Bin Qasim.
He added that not only people working on daily wages are struggling to make their ends meet but it is feared that there may be a shortage of food supplies and essential items countrywide.
He highlighted that already the country is facing a decline in exports and trade deficit is soaring. During the 10 months of the ongoing FY, the trade gap increased to $26.55 billion- 40 percent higher than the same time last year.
