Breaking news race making media irresponsible, say journalists

LAHORE: A seminar on Quality of Media Content, Role of Regulators, Media Professionals and Owners was held at the University of Central Punjab on Monday which was attended by journalists and media officials from all over the country. 

Reportedly, the speakers spoke on the implications of control over the media industry and the impact of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

They also agreed that the basic challenges faced by the media industry are lack of quality content, exploitation of journalists, increasing government intervention and rise of digital platforms, according to reports.

On this occasion, senior journalist Saleem Bukhari said that electronic media is getting increasingly irresponsible and most people appearing on television screens lack proper knowledge about the subject they’re speaking on.

Dr Mughees, another senior journalist said the “breaking news race” and sensationalism was harmful to the industry and to the society as a whole, according to reports.
