Keeping the emerging needs of the stakeholders of CPEC in view and in order to train its faculty and the students for playing their role in the mega project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore has set up CPEC Research Centre, which was inaugurated by Chinese Council General Lahore along with varsity’s Rector Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad here on Monday.
According to details, the centre aims at raising awareness among the students and public regarding CPEC and its various dimensions. Besides conducting in-depth research, seminars and workshops, the centre will focus on connecting Pakistani market with that of China, connecting young entrepreneurs studying in Pakistani and Chinese universities to come up with innovative business plans and new strategies to apply on CPEC.
Talking to media after the inauguration ceremony, Rector UMT said, “Our faculty is committed to undertaking research on CPEC, which is the future of Pakistan. We are working very hard on the students and getting them ready to professionally contribute to the mega project and shape a new future”. He added that “It is the responsibility of all institutions of higher education to generate trained manpower to deal with the future challenges that could be hitting us once the CPEC project is set to take speed”, he maintained. “Every student enrolled in a university should take keen interest in playing their role in CPEC in order to put the country on the lines of rapid development and economic stability”, he said.
Chinese Council General, Long Ding Don, while speaking on the occasion, said that together Pakistani and Chinese universities could contribute immensely to the implementation of CPEC. He said that CPEC would bring prosperity to Pakistan, stabilizing its economy through the One Road, One Belt project. He appreciated UMT management’s endeavors for carrying on successful Chinese classes in the varsity and raising awareness among the faculty and students. He hoped that the trained, young professionals from the Pakistani universities such as UMT would come forward and make the CPEC a success.
The CPEC Centre at UMT will conduct scientific analysis of various business activities to be carried out through CPEC and serve as a guiding principle for policymakers and stakeholders.
State of the Art technology would be utilized to study CPEC market and connect it with academia and industry. The centre will look into the key areas of CPEC like its socio-economic impact on the lives of masses, job opportunities for university students, financial integration, cultural influence, urban development and industry expansion.
