Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Omar Mahmood Hayyat visited Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Head Office, here today.
During the visit, Director General (DG) PDMA Mudassar Waheed Malik briefed the chairman NDMA regarding the pre-monsoon and pre-flood arrangements made by the PDMA.
DG PDMA informed that his department has started making pre-flood arrangements and that all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have been taken on board. Mock exercises have also been conducted in different districts, he added.
He said that six meetings have been conducted by the Cabinet Committee on Floods under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Disaster Management Maher Ijaz Achlana, and that all the Provincial and Federal Departments have been requested for making pre-flood arrangements. He said that the Punjab PDMA has also requested cooperation from other departments, such as, Irrigation department, Rescue 1122 and Met Office etc. in order to keep all stakeholders on board. He said that Punjab PDMA has also introduced Inventory Management System which will help in real time monitoring. He added that Punjab PDMA has also installed Satellite Based Tracking System along with taking disaster risk reduction initiatives.
While appreciating the pre-flood arrangements of Punjab PDMA, Chairman NDMA assured the PDMA of all-out efforts and support to Punjab PDMA in case of an emergency. Chairman NDMA also appreciated PDMA Punjab’s IT based initiatives and said that other provinces should follow this suit. DG PDMA Mudassar Waheed also presented a souvenir to Chairman NDMA.
