KU to hold conference on bioethics

KARACHI: A three-day conference on “Responsible Conduct of Science: Ethical Concerns in Medical and Pharmaceutical Practice and Research” will commence from May 20, 2017, to May 22, 2017. The conference will be held at the University of Karachi.

Sindh Health Minister Dr Sikandar Ali Mandhro will be the chief guest.

KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Ziauddin University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, USA International Council for Life Sciences (ICLS) President Thomas Taylor among others will also address on the occasion.

The first session will be held on May 20, 2017, at 3:30 pm and will be chaired by a renowned microbiologist Professor Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi in which various papers will be presented, including a paper on biosafety by Muhammad Ismail, on environmental ethics and worldview by Prof Dr Jamil Hasan Kazmi.

More research papers will also be presented by on the third day, including a paper on ethical issues in genetic testing by Abdul Hameed, paper on ethics for working with experimental animals, paper on ethical issues for infectious diseases by Muhammad Waheed Akhtar, Paper on Responsible sciences under one health by Zabta Khan Shinwari.

The concluding session of the conference will be held on May 22, 2017, at 4:00 pm in which conference recommendations will be presented by Terence Thomas Taylor.

Sindh Government Senior Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro will be the chief guest of the occasion.
