Karachi-Hyderabad rail link continues to remain suspended

HYDERABAD: The rail link connecting Karachi and Hyderabad remain suspended after more than 24 hours of the collision of two trains near Kotri.

Officials have informed that rescue operations are in process to clear the debris from the railway tracks.

Two trains carrying goods collided between the Bholari and Meeting Pul near Kotri early the other day. No casualties have been reported.

The incident led the  rail traffic to and from Karachi to be suspended; with report stating that   over seven trains had been halted at the Hyderabad and Kotri railway stations.

Railway officials had informed the other day that the Karachi-Hyderabad route will require one day to become functional and be reopened for trains.. Two trains were dispatched to the crash site in order to help with the clearing operations.

On Saturday, officials of the Pakistan Railways had stated that the tracks could be reopened by night. However, this has not been the case.

Giving details of the accident, Railways DS Nisar Memon had said around 23 bogies were derailed after a  goods train transporting containers to Lahore crashed into the rear side of another train carrying oil to Multan.
