City administration marks over 400 unsafe buildings for demolition

RAWALPINDI: The city administration has issued eviction notices to owners of as many as 400 dilapidated buildings. The rundown buildings along the drain need to be demolished on an urgent basis to avoid any mishap, officials stated.

The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC), Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and district management have issued notices to the owners and tenants of over 400 dilapidated buildings to vacate these structures.

According to local media sources, the families residing in these buildings are refusing to vacate their homes. The buildings are located in Bhabhra Bazaar, areas around Lal Haveli, Mohalla Shah Chan Chirag, Pull Shah Nazar Ghazni Road, Akal garh, Bagh Sardaran, Matter Pura, Nighat Pura, Bohar Bazaar, Raja Bazaar, Moti Bazaar, Kallan Bazaar, Purana Qilla and Jamia Masjid Road.

Some of these buildings are over 100 years old and are feared to collapse during the monsoon season.
